Performing Arts Camp: Casting
Every camper who wants to be involved in theatre at Ballibay will be! Auditions and casting are not to see who will "get in," they are an opportunity for directors to get to know campers so that they can match the right camper to the right role.
Once auditions are complete, theatre directors gather at a casting meeting to choose which campers they each will work with. The goal is not to cast "the best person for each role." Instead, we ask directors to cast "the campers who will learn the most from rehearsing and performing their roles." We aim to challenge the experienced performers, and give campers with less experience new opportunities.
Directors also try to put together a successful ensemble; a group that can work well together. Based on campers' "theatre interviews," directors try to match campers of similar interests and put campers in the types of roles they want.
