Freerunning at Camp Ballibay

actor using Frerunning during a production at theater summer campFreerunning is a physical discipline of French origin very similar to Parkour that emphasizes efficient and graceful movement through landscapes. It is born out of a respect for the abilities and limitations of the human body, and a desire to overcome obstacles (both tangible and non-tangible), and to not be ruled by terrain and architecture, but to move like water: above, under, and through barriers.

Parkour/Freerunning was first introduced at Ballibay in 2007 as a technique to aid the cast of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing in the many chases and evasions in the production. We hope to make Freerunning a regular part of our program offerings beginning in 2008.

Note: Capoeira, Freerunning, and Tai Chi Chuan may not be available in all sessions. Please contact camp before registering if the availability of Freerunning is essential to you.
